We are running Oracle 8.1.7.4 with Parallel Server Option. All our data loads are pretty fast because of this. But, during the load of two processes, the CPU is shooting upto to 80%. Is there any way I can control this without compromising on the load time ?

Also, I checked the table in dba_tables and the degree is 1 for this table. Does it help in any way if I increase this degree to 12 ?

Any help is greately appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

No. Why you want to set it up to 12. That means degree of parallelism - 12. With 2 CPU's there will be more time spend to schedule the whole 12 parallel processes to run than to do some query processing..

Hope that helps,
