Our system doesn't use the udump directory alltough we have it in init.ora registered. Instead it writes everything into bdump directory .Espescially with the instruction "backup controlfile to trace" the trace file takes place in into the bdump directory.
Does anyone knows why and how we can tell the system to write the trace file into the udump directory ?

make sure u have the correct entries in initsid.ora.
and
set ur ORACLE_BASE.
$ORACLE_BASE/admin/< sid > /udump
$ORACLE_BASE/admin/< sid > /bdump etc..
Make sure these directories exist and have permissions
