Slow oracle connection!! [message #52162]

I have oracle 8i set up on several win2k servers. but all of them have the same problem. when I connect to it using SQL*plus or other applications through ODBC, it takes a long time(about 12-15 seconds), but once it connect, the following connect go fast, I know it's the NT server polling mechanism. so I wonder what the problem is? how can I fix it?

pls replace your oracle server name with the tcp/ip address of that server in the tnsname.ora file at the client end.

pls observe the consequences minutely.

Sorry. by slow connection I mean slow login. sorry about the mistake there. it takes about 12 seconds to get login. isn't that too long?

I also mean by slow login.
Login means making a connection from client to server.

Now I change the host to IP address (Reserved DHCP IP) instead of the Machine name, but it seems it makes no difference.

I'm running w2k and have the same problem. Oracle has a very slow connection timing via jdbc
